A successful transportation planning process must include proactive public involvement. The public involvement process developed for the Roanoke Valley Area MPO is designed to provide complete information, timely public notice, and full public access to key decisions. The MPO seeks to have early and continuing involvement of the public in for transportation planning, the Long Range Plan and the TIP. The MPO conforms to federal transportation planning requirements by using a variety of techniques to involve the public including:

• Open public meetings
• Published calendar of meetings
• Formal legal notices
• Mailing lists, and
• Advisory Committees.
