Internships
are available year-round with the Roanoke Valley-Alleghany Regional Commission's
Internship Program for students that have coursework and/or interest in
any of the following areas: regional and transportation planning, community
and economic development, water and environmental resources planning,
demographics, mapping, housing, citizen participation and outreach, general
research and data collection, website design, and/or related topics.
Types
of Internship
Academic, volunteer, and special project internships are available for
students from a range of academic majors. Academic credit internships
are based on academic institution and/or department requirements. The
intern is responsible for coordinating with the academic department to
receive academic credit.
Internship
Projects and Duties
Specific duties and assignments will be based on intern’s area(s)
of interest/expertise, the Regional Commission’s Work Program, and
data requests received. Duties include maintaining the Regional Commission
library, demographic and socioeconomic data collection and analysis, provision
of general technical assistance, and other projects and activities as
assigned or developed. An

Work
Hours and Office Location
Work hours are flexible and based on the intern's schedule, academic institution
requirements for academic or other credit, and the timetable of various
projects in which the intern will be participating. Regional Commission
office hours are 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., Monday through Friday. The Region
Commission is located at 313 Luck Avenue, SW, in the City of Roanoke (Click
