Track the Progress of the Roanoke River Greenway
Roanoke River Greenway Status Map- When completed, the Roanoke River Greenway will form the "spine" of the Roanoke Valley Greenway network, connecting Roanoke County, the cities of Roanoke and Salem, and the Town of Vinton via a 27-mile long greenway, trail, and blueway. Portions of the Roanoke River Greenway are complete and other sections are in various stages of planning, right-of-way acquisition, and engineering.

2007 Update to the Roanoke Valley Conceptual Greenway Plan
The Roanoke Valley-Alleghany Regional Commission received funding under the Virginia Department of Transportation's Pilot Transportation Planning Grant to update the Conceptual Greenway Plan for the Roanoke Valley, completed in 1995. In updating the Conceptual Greenway Plan, the Regional Commission partnered the Roanoke Valley Greenway Commission, the Cities of Roanoke and Salem, Roanoke County, and the Town of Vinton. A private consultant, LandDesign, Inc., also assisted with the update.
