Regional Commission staff is assisting the localities with choosing annual priorities and with implementing several of the projects listed in the strategy.

Greater Alleghany Highlands Region Tourism Trail Concept Development
Commission staff is working with representatives and stakeholders from the Counties of Alleghany, Bath, Craig, and Highland and the City of Covington to develop a 'tourism trail' or a group of thematically linked tourism assets.

Alleghany Highlands Cluster/Target Industry Analysis
Regional Commission staff is working with the Alleghany Highlands to conduct an analysis of industry cluster concentration, cluster wages, changes wtihin clusters, and also important labor market characteristics.

Alleghany Highlands Telecommunications/Broadband Planning
Regional Commission staff is assisting Highlands localities with administration of a Broadband planning grant from the Virginia Department of Housing and Community Development.

Pursue Designation as an Economic Development District
Commission staff is working this year to form a Strategy Committee and to begin preliminary steps involved in producing a regional Comprehensive Economic Development Strategy for the entire RVARC district and in obtaining Economic Development District designation.

CSX Rail Yard Redevelopment
Staff is assisting the Town of Clifton Forge with the implementation of the CSX Rail Yard Redevelopment project.

Covington Economic Development Assistance
Staff is assisting the City of Covington with a number of projects related to economic developmeng incuding assisting in the creation of a blighted structure incentive program, assistance in looking at a community development authority, and assistance with historic downtown revitalization.

Virginia Department of Business Assistance/Entrepreneur Express Program
Commission staff is assisting in the planning of several Entrepreneur Express events in the RVARC service area and is currently maintaining Vastartup.org, the Entrepreneur Express program webpage.
