Regional Commission staff has access to IMPLAN software and has constructed economic input-output models for several functional regions within its service area including a model for the Roanoke MSA, a model for the Alleghany Highlands, a model for the entire RVARC service area, and a model for the larger NewVA region. Custom models can be constructed for any project using counties in Virginia as the most basic level of geography.

Staff has the capability of estimating direct impacts, indirect impacts, and induced impacts, as well as indirect business taxes resulting from new industrial activity, tourism activity, and/or special events. Commission staff have assisted a number of nonprofits, localities, and private businesses in estimating economic impacts of a variety of events, industrial expansions, developments, etc.The Regional Commission performs economic impact analysis for member governments as a part of its regular services. Economic Impact Analysis can also be provided to other groups in the region for a nominal fee.

A presentation has been developed to explain the basics of the Commission's new IMPLAN services and a fee schedule for IMPLAN services is available here.

Please contact John Hull for more information on the regional input-output model.
