NEWS AND EVENTS
State Bicycle Policy Plan Available for Public Comment
Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) has developed the State Bicycle Policy Plan to ensure bicyclists are an integral component of Virginia’s multimodal transportation system, and to provide bicycle policy recommendations that will guide the planning, design, construction, operation and maintenance of bicycle accommodations. The VDOT State Bicycle Policy Plan, including a summary of recommendations is available for public review and comment beginning Monday, Aug. 16, and concluding Friday, Sept. 17, 2010.

City of Roanoke Receives Bicycle Friendly Community Award
The League of American Bicyclists announced today that it has honored the City of Roanoke with its prestigious Bicycle Friendly Community award.  Roanoke joins Alexandria, Arlington and Charlottesville as Virginia's only Bicycle Friendly Communities. Click here for more information.

Bicycle User Survey Summary
More than 300 respondents completed the Bicycle User Survey, which is a component of the 2010 update of the Bikeway Plan for the Roanoke Valley Area MPO. The Bikeway Plan, last updated in 2005, represents a coordinated effort by the Roanoke Valley Area MPO and local jurisdictions to facilitate development of a regional transportation network that accommodates and encourages bicycling as an alternative mode of travel and as a popular form of recreation in the MPO study area.
