Regional Planning Academy - Overview The
Regional Academy provides a general introduction to regional planning
and the Roanoke Valley-Alleghany Regional Commission. The
goal of the Regional Planning Academy is to provide a better understanding
of a range of regional issues, their impacts on quality of life, and the
planning processes, programs and activities used to address these issues. Planning
topics covered include transportation, community and economic development,
environmental and water resources, mapping and spatial data, and demographics.
Regional Planning Academy Highlights The Regional Planning Academy was the recipient of the National Association of Development Organization Innovation Award. Notable features of the academy include: Who Should Participate? The Regional Planning Academy is open to anyone interested in learning more about regional planning issues (tranportation, community and economic development, the environment, water resources, mapping and GIS/GPS) – local, state, and federal agency staff; elected officials and community leaders; neighborhood, civic, and environmental groups; business owners; teachers and students; and other citizens. How to Participate Registration is not required to participate in the Regional Planning Academy. However, registration is required for participants that would like to receive a Certificate of Completion and Regional Planning Information Packet upon successful completion of the Regional Planning Academy Final Exam. Instructions are provided on the online Final Exam.
